Welcome to Doin’ Ok, Yeah.
Those challenging introductions! Too much? Too little? It has been brought to my attention that I tend to use too many details when telling a story, but isn’t life in all the details? I think it would be quite boring without them! But for right now, I’ll cut to the chase, as my son reminds me to do!
My husband Greg and I were blessed with two beautiful boys. Our oldest Clint, and wife, Quin have recently welcomed daughter Harper into their family. Ross, our second son, was born in May of 1985 and diagnosed with Autism in December of 1987. From that day on, our lives were forever changed.
In the spring of 2012 I stumbled upon my journals that I kept from the early years of Ross’ diagnosis of autism. After reading a few entries, I quickly discovered through my 50 year old eyes, a 25 year old girl beginning the biggest challenge, yet most rewarding adventure of her life.
Since this day, I have found myself reflecting more and more. I realize this journey has been so much more than raising two wonderful sons. It’s the many lessons my family and I have learned along the way. Discovering who I am. My strengths and my weaknesses. It is all these experiences that have led me here today.
My goal was to help each of my boys reach their potential. I have lived through the challenges and joys of raising a child with autism. I hope that by sharing my stories you will find comfort and strength in yourself, as well. Believe me, I don’t have all the answers and I continue to learn and grow every day.
I am ok, for now. But, give me a minute or two and that just might change.
